Review of Grosse Ile, Michigan

I lived on this island from the time I was 7 years old to 27. This is a very safe place to live. I disagree that the crime rate is 6. It should be a 1, at best. There is virtually no violent crime. Grosse Ile is an island with two bridges. If you commit a major crime, the bridges on both ends of the island close. To get off the island, you would have to go by boat. It is a 10 mile by 2 mile island with some small islands that are private or submerged in water. My biggest criticism is the lack of cultural diversity. One street that is it's "business district". If you want a crime free, very quiet tranquil place to live, retire, and boat than this is the place to be. If you want some nightlife and diversity, don't live here. Tons of mosquitoes in the summer. They are atrocious.

I'd say the crime rate is right. It was a lot safer 30 years ago. There is a lot of nuisance crime. Bad parenting is the problem. I used to be able to leave my house unlocked and the keys in my car. Now, I have to lock my shed. I got lucky and came back home as the neighbor hood boys with stealing my riding mow to race in the Ferry trails. A friend left their house unlocked for a quick trip to Kroger and when returned 20 minutes later the beer with gone from the frig and the liquor was gone for the bar.

I'd say the crime rate is likely right. When I moved on 30 years ago, people left their doors unlocked and their keys in their cars but now we have a lot of nuisance crime. To many spoilt children. Stealing riding mower and racing them on the Ferry, going through unlocked cars for money, stealing money, booze, computers from neighbors. Still very safe from major crime, but leave your house unlocked for the quick drive to Kroger and you will likely come home to find your beer gone from your frig.
